On 28 May in Astana, Alexander Subbotin, Minister for Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held a thematic session titled “Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence in SPS Measures — Innovative Solutions” as part of the V Eurasian Economic Forum.
Experts from the competent authorities of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and representatives of a number of international organisations discussed the experience and prospects of applying digital technologies and artificial intelligence to ensure sanitary and epidemiological well-being, veterinary and sanitary safety, and quarantine phytosanitary security across the EAEU territory.
In his address, Alexander Subbotin emphasised that modern technologies are already seeing widespread adoption, with artificial intelligence increasingly replacing traditional paper-based procedures.
“The widespread use of digital technologies, including those based on artificial intelligence, will enable national competent authorities to assess relevant risks in real time. This will help ensure prompt and effective decision-making in the areas of public health protection, preservation of epizootic well-being, and quarantine phytosanitary security across the territory of the EAEU member states, while simultaneously reducing the regulatory burden on business entities,” the EEC Minister stressed.
According to Alexander Subbotin, the outcomes of the session will be subject to further consideration at the Commission’s platform with a view to developing coordinated decisions aimed at synchronising the process of AI integration into the field of SPS measures, taking into account the interests of each Member State and the Union as a whole.
