Ruslan Davydov, the Eurasian Economic Commission's minister for customs cooperation, led a roundtable discussion titled "Development of Checkpoints on the Customs Border of the Eurasian Economic Union as a Basis for Expanding the Transit Potential of the Eurasian Economic Union", held during the Eurasian Economic Forum.
According to Davydov, EAEU governments face the task of rapidly expanding the infrastructure of Eurasian transport and logistics routes and corridors. Special focus is being placed on developing the North-South and East-West international transport corridors.
Border crossing points are a key element of international transport corridors, largely determining their throughput capacity.
"Upgrades to the border crossing infrastructure, introduction of breakthrough technology, integrated IT systems, the Internet of Things, big data, and AI-powered technology can enable faster movement of goods and vehicles across the customs border and support the growth of EAEU foreign trade", Davydov said.
Standardizing technical requirements for border crossing infrastructure and its individual components, and synchronizing efforts to develop border crossings along the shared EAEU customs border are seen as a key task of the EEC.
Customs officials and business leaders from EAEU member states shared their experiences in equipping and modernizing border crossing points. They discussed plans and proposals for implementing breakthrough technology in customs border operations.
