About the Forum
The III Eurasian Economic Forum will be held from September 30 to October 1, 2024, in Yerevan (Republic of Armenia). The forum coincides with a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, featuring the heads of government of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states and observer states. This event is organized under the framework of Armenia's chairmanship of the EAEU in 2024.
This year’s forum is also special, as it marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union. In connection with this milestone, the main theme of the event is “10 Years of the EAEU: Perspectives and Priorities.”
The forum's business program will include approximately 30 events, addressing key integration issues within the EAEU. The forum aims to attract participation from business leaders across the large, medium, and small sectors in member states and third countries, as well as top officials, government representatives from EAEU nations, and heads of governments from third-party countries. Representatives from international organizations, academia, and educational institutions with an interest in fostering cooperation within the Union will also be in attendance.
Forum history
The emergence of the Eurasian Economic Forum has marked a significant milestone in strengthening cooperation between the EAEU member countries, serving as a platform for enhancing mutual understanding.
The idea of Eurasian integration was first proposed in 1994 by Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first President of Kazakhstan, during a renowned speech at Moscow State University. In 2001, this concept materialized with the formation of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC), and on January 1, 2015, it evolved into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.
To coordinate their activities, the member states established the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). The creation of the EEC marked a shift toward a more advanced stage of Eurasian integration by establishing a permanent supranational regulatory body with real authority over strategic economic areas.
In 2016, the first Eurasian Week was held in Moscow at the Skolkovo Innovation Center, featuring both exhibitions and conferences. The member states agreed that the Eurasian Week would rotate, hosted by the country chairing the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. As a result, the event took place in Kazakhstan’s capital in 2017 at EXPO-2017, in Yerevan in 2018, and in Bishkek in September 2019.
By the end of 2019, it was decided to elevate the status of the event, transforming Eurasian Week into the Eurasian Economic Forum, which would be held annually. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the forum was canceled in 2020 and 2021.
In 2023, under the Russian Federation's chairmanship of the Union, the second Eurasian Economic Forum was held in Moscow, coinciding with a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. Results of the forum:
