On August 22, the Eurasian Economic Commission hosted a meeting of the Presidium of the “Green Eurasia” Second International Climate Competition. The meeting was chaired by Svetlana Chupsheva, Director General of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects” and Andrey Slepnev, EEC Minister in charge of Trade.
During the meeting, the Presidium members decided the winners and finalists in 15 categories, noting the applications with the best practices in climate mitigation and adaptation. A winner was also selected in the cross-cutting category “Eurasian Perspective”, which additionally evaluated the international cooperation component.
The Green Eurasia partners –Gazprombank, Promsvyazbank and the Melnichenko Foundation – awarded the projects in their own special categories.
“The award ceremony for the competition winners and finalists will be held within the Eurasian Economic Forum, scheduled from September 30 to October 1 in Yerevan involving the Heads of Government of the Eurasian Economic Union Member States,” Andrey Slepnev informed.The Minister took a favorable view of the growing interest in the Climate Competition, being held for the second time. According to him, this once again emphasizes the relevance of climate issues. Along with that, public recognition and appreciation are always important to enhance reputation and encourage follow-up activities, Andrey Slepnev emphasized.
“Last year we held the first international competition “Green Eurasia” between the EAEU States. The active response enabled us to decide on expanding the geography of participants to all countries of the world. This year we received more than 300 practices from 12 countries, including China, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, Cameroon, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan,” Svetlana Chupsheva noted in this regard.
She expressed confidence that the “Green Eurasia” competition will become another reference point for strengthening cooperation and increasing the availability of competitive environmental and climate technologies in the Eurasian space.
