On June 26 in Minsk, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, held a working meeting with Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the State Administration Council and prime minister of Myanmar.
Meeting on the sidelines of the Eurasian Economic Forum, the two officials discussed EAEU-Myanmar cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two sides.
"We have seen positive momentum across a wide range of economic issues since the signing of the Memorandum", Sagintayev said. "From 2019 to 2024, trade between EAEU member states and Myanmar has more than tripled, exceeding $1.5 billion."
The EEC Board Chairman emphasized that increasing awareness of each other's trade and economic opportunities will create the conditions for advancing cooperation.
Following the meeting, Bakytzhan Sagintayev and Min Aung Hlaing agreed that engagement between the business communities of the EAEU and Myanmar would give additional impetus to their dialogue. This, in turn, would help identify new and promising areas for cooperation.
Key Myanmar exports to EAEU member countries include rice, coffee, palm oil, and cocoa beans. Imports to Myanmar are dominated by mineral fertilizers, consumer goods, machinery and equipment, metals, edible oils, cement, and pharmaceuticals.
