Digital Transformation of Industry Requires a Shift Towards Systemic Modernisation of the EAEU's Entire Industrial Complex

Digital Transformation of Industry Requires a Shift Towards Systemic Modernisation of the EAEU's Entire Industrial Complex
    28.05.2026

The transition from individual digital solutions to the systemic modernisation of industry across the Eurasian Economic Union member states is becoming one of the central priorities of the Eurasian integration agenda. This was stated by Goar Barsegyan, Minister in charge of Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission, during the thematic session “Global Trends in Industrial Digital Transformation: Experience of the EAEU and UNIDO,” held as part of the V Eurasian Economic Forum.

“The Union’s member states have already accumulated considerable practical experience in implementing modern digital solutions — from the automation of production processes to the application of artificial intelligence and robotics. Today it is important to ensure the transition from individual successful projects to the systemic modernisation of the industrial complex across the EAEU,” said Goar Barsegyan.

The EEC Minister emphasised that the digital transformation of industry is not only a tool for improving productivity and technological efficiency, but also a critical factor in ensuring the long-term competitiveness of the Union member states’ economies.

Addressing international engagement, the Minister highlighted the importance of cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which enables the EAEU to make use of international expertise and best practices in support of the technological development of its member states.

“Cooperation with UNIDO opens up additional opportunities to develop modern approaches to industrial modernisation, develop international partnerships, and adapt cutting-edge technological solutions to the needs of our economies,” said Goar Barsegyan.

Fatou Haidara, Deputy Director General of UNIDO, noted the strong potential for further strengthening cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Commission on sustainable industrial development and digital transformation.

The session covered practical aspects of AI implementation, digital twins, data analytics, and robotics solutions in industry, as well as existing constraints related to financing, human resources, infrastructure readiness, and the digital maturity of enterprises.

The discussion brought together representatives of government authorities, international organisations, the private sector, and the expert community from across the Eurasian Economic Union member states.
